Our team has encountered the pains of working remotely first-hand. After experiencing the difficulty of scheduling and attending real-time daily calls across a 7 hour time difference, we thought, "Waking up at 4:30 AM every day for this sync is 😩... There has to be a better way."
It's hard enough for people in the same place to find a convenient time to chat live; it's exponentially harder for remote teams, who often work across multiple locations or timezones. When it's 10:00 AM in San Francisco, it's 6:00 PM in Germany (and already 10:30 PM in India). Furthermore, meeting live to discuss everything can really impact your productivity and flow when working.
Also, remote work can be lonely; when you work remotely, you don't get the face time you would naturally get with your co-workers in an office.
We wanted to make it easier for remote workers to easily see and listen to each other every day, no matter where they are on the globe.
That's why we built Standups, to help teams communicate daily using video and voice stories. ✨
“Every company that is over 100 people is distributed. They just pretend they aren’t. As soon as you have so many people that you can’t all fit in a room – you are distributed. You’re just pretending you aren’t and you probably have crappy processes.”
– Matt Mullenweg, Wordpress Founder
The biggest challenge of remote work is creating connectivity and fostering a sense of belonging within teams. Human interaction is key to developing and forging lasting relationships, whether it's with friends or co-workers. We know from talking with hundreds of remote teams and from our personal experience, that daily video contact is crucial for team building, improving collaboration, and making teams cohesive.
“Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.”
– Henry Ford
Our team at Standups is small, but we move fast. We're also remote-first, working across the Bay Area to Europe. As a product-first company, we're laser-focused on creating the best possible experience for distributed and remote teams.
